Week 13: Coastal Erosion
For this week I will be discussing coastal erosion. For starters what exactly is this and what effect does it have on Greece? Well, coastal erosion is the process in which local sea level rises causing strong wave action and typically leads coastal flooding that causes rocks and soil to wear down. So what causes this? This is typically caused by various reasons some including the following; hydraulic action, corrosion by wind & water, and even abrasion. I think every country has a possibility of being affected by coastal erosion but depending on the country others are far more impacted depending on the location and circumstances. My country is Greece which is what I will be further explaining for this week and the effects/impact it has on Greece. Due to coastal erosion Greece has been severely impacted causing a massive amount of wreckage in nearly a third of Greek beaches. Greeces’ coastline tends to be 15,000 km long being 60% mainland and the rest of it being 40% just island
